Named after Quetzalcoatl, the aztec feathered serpent god, quetzalcoatlus was a huge pterosaur from the late cretaceous period. It stood as tall as a giraffe and had wingspan of around 12m.
Despite it's huge size, quetzalcoatlus probably only weighed around 250kg (550lb). This was in part due to the presence of air sacs within it's bones.
It is thought that quetzalcoatlus spent most of it's time over land. With arms powerful enough to assist walking it is possible that quetzalcoatlus may have hunted either from the air, or from the ground. Possible prey would have included baby dinosaurs.
"Quetzalcoatlus had a wingspan of 12m, which is greater than a small plane."
